Recent case decision outcomes involving the persecution and fining of senior level executives as well as workplace specific legislative changes have sparked greater vigilance and awareness of the personal, criminal and corporate liabilities placed on senior level directors and boards in their roles

Akolade's Directors' and Officers' Duties and Liabilities Forum is a one day, lawyer-led seminar addressing the governance, reporting and overall compliance of directors and the legal framework in which they operate.

Corporate partner Tony Stumm is presenting in Brisbane on Monday 31 March 2014.  Tony's presentation Examining Directors' liability for personal tax debts will discuss:

  • The changes (and further proposed changes) to s 254T of Corporations Act (requirements for dividends to declare or determine a dividend)
  • Personal (and superannuation guarantee) liabilities Directors may face in respect to tax
  • Understanding the power of the tax office to investigate and fight payment avoidance
  • Strengthening communication between the in-house tax function and the board.

  • The scope of cover for liability and costs
  • Exclusions from cover
  • Recent case law
