QLS Senior Counsellors' Conference - Brisbane

Oct 2014 |

Can we remain a profession in the 21st Century?

Carter Newell Special Counsel and QLS Ethics Committee member Nola Pearce will debate for the affirmative team at the QLS Senior Counsellors' Conference on the 24 October 2014.

This session, chaired by Noela L’Estrange, Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Law Society, will pit the finest legal minds in a generation against each other in a struggle for the very soul of the profession.

What does it take to be a professional in the age of digital connectivity, shifting client demands and the eroding of the building blocks of 20th century legal practice? A new generation of practitioners is about to take the reins and in doing so deliver the killing blow to professional staples like billable hours, the trusted advisor and the executive lunch. Does the lawyer make the profession or the profession make the lawyer?

Joining Nola as presenters for the affirmative team include:

  • Bill Potts, Director, Potts Lawyers, QLS Councillor and QLS Senior Counsellor
  • Peter Carne, Non Executive Director

Presenters for the negative team include:

  • Glenn Ferguson, Managing Director, Ferguson Cannon Lawyers and QLS Senior Counsellor
  • Bronwyn Neroni, General Manager, Corporate Governance & Strategy Support/Corporate Secretary, Queensland Law Society
  • Michael Beirne, Principal, Barclay Beirne Lawyers and QLS Senior Counsellor
