About Bernard
Bernard is a Senior Associate in Carter Newell’s Sydney Professional Liability team.
He advises the Australian and London insurance markets in relation to first party property, energy and major loss, marine, construction and professional indemnity claims acting as both coverage and defence counsel. He also has expertise in third-party subrogated recoveries.
His core experience is in high value litigated and unlitigated multi-party disputes involving complex construction projects where he has acted for and against principal contractors, design professionals, including architects and engineers in regulated design defect claims. He has also run class actions, including, a high-profile multi-insurer COVID-19 prevention of access class action, as well as Directors and Officers liability claims against accountants, labour hire and recruitment entities.
Bernard’s experience has been further developed through secondments at major insurers, who provide D&O, commercial, SME and high personal net worth property insurance.
During these secondments, Bernard also managed internal and external dispute resolution across the APAC region, which included resolving complex service and claim determination complaints across all lines of business.
