New IR Laws for HR Manager

Mar 2014 |

Sham contracting is widespread in many industries and occurs when an employer tries to pass off an employment relationship as an independent contracting relationship.  Under Fair Work Act 2009, such arrangements are illegal.  In July 2013, a record fine of $238,920 was handed down to a Newcastle based transport company for displaying wilful blindness to workplace laws through widespread use of Sham arrangements.

Taking place at Royal on the Park, Brisbane, Stephen's session will examine:

  • What are sham contracting arrangements?
  • Protections under the Fair Work Act 2009
  • ACE Insurance Limited v Trifunovski FCAFC 3
  • On Call Interpreters v Commissioner of Taxation (No 3) (2011) FCA 366
  • Happy Cabby Pty Ltd v Fair Work Ombudsman (2013)

The conference provides a detailed up-to-date snapshot of the latest legal changes to Workplace Relations / IR Law and the implications for employers.
