Aviation Insurance

Overview

In the high stakes world of aviation insurance – managing risk and defending liability is vital to the success of your operations.

Led by Partner Glenn Biggs, our Aviation Insurance team acts for and advises Australian and European insurers across a comprehensive range of aviation issues – including airport operators’ liability, loss of license, hangarkeeper premises and aircraft hull and liability.

We have been trusted advisors to the aviation industry for more than 35 years, acting for insurers in defence of personal injury and property damage claims throughout Australia, Asia Pacific and the United States of America.

We have acted in matters involving:

  • defective licensed aircraft maintenance engineers’ workmanship;
  • product liability;
  • manufacturer’s liability;
  • pilot or operator negligence;
  • licensed / unlicensed aerodrome liabilities for major and regional airports;
  • freight handling losses;
  • strict liability; and
  • animal, bird and bat strikes.

Our team have acted in some of the largest property general aviation losses in Australia and have developed specialist industry knowledge and experience to ensure we understand your claim quickly and comprehensively – giving the insured the best chance to avoid unnecessary additional stress or reputational damage.

In addition to advising on losses, we are experienced in the provision of coverage advice, policy interpretation and indemnity or exclusion clauses specific to aviation insurance policies across a range of products such as AVN1C and 1D aircraft insurance policies, aircraft non-ownership liability insurance policies, hangarkeeper’s liability insurance policies, airport operator’s liability policies, aircraft aerial application liability policies and loss of licence policies.
