Stefan Luke appointed Partner at Carter Newell in Corporate & Commercial

Carter Newell has appointed Stefan Luke as a Partner in its Corporate & Commercial team, bringing more than 25 years of top-tier and in-house legal experience to the firm’s growing commercial practice.

Stefan joins the partnership having already established himself within the Carter Newell team as a consultant, advising clients on complex corporate transactions across Australia and internationally. His appointment deepens the firm’s capability in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity and corporate governance.

Carter Newell Chair of Partners Paul Hopkins said Stefan’s appointment reinforces the firm’s capabilities.

“Stefan has cultivated leading expertise and strong commercial judgement as a partner in top tier firms, in his significant in-house experience, and within our team at Carter Newell,” said Paul.

“Stefan has built an exceptional track record advising on high-stakes corporate transactions at top-tier firms, in boardrooms as a General Counsel, and more recently with our clients at Carter Newell,” said Paul. “He brings a rare combination of technical depth, commercial judgement, and genuine in-house perspective.”

“On behalf of the broader partnership, I am proud to welcome Stefan as a partner and look forward to his calibre and leadership driving further success for our clients.”

Stefan specialises in corporate transactional work, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, equity capital market funding, cross-border transactions and commercial contracting. He has experience in a wide range of industry sectors, including data centres, energy and resources, major infrastructure, industrial, food and agribusiness and entertainment industries.

His in-house experience is a distinguishing feature of his practice. Stefan has served as General Counsel for data centre businesses and has secondment experience with major resources entities as Legal Counsel, advising on legal aspects of both ongoing businesses and on greenfield development projects — experience that gives him a direct perspective on how corporate decisions are made and what clients need from external counsel.

“My focus is on being a genuine partner to clients, understanding their commercial objectives, the risks they face, and the industry dynamics shaping their decisions,” said Stefan. “That means providing advice that is practical, targeted and directly connected to outcomes.”

Stefan’s appointment further strengthens Carter Newell’s integrated corporate offering. The Corporate & Commercial team works closely with the firm’s Employment & Workplace Advisory, Energy & Resources, Planning & Environment and Commercial Property practices, as well as its highly regarded Corporate & Commercial Litigation team, ensuring clients receive coordinated, end-to-end support across the life of their business.
