Carter Newell elevates seven

In their 30th year, award winning law firm Carter Newell is pleased to announce the elevation of seven solicitors across its Eastern seaboard offices.

Specialising in insurance Rochelle Rieck (Financial Lines - Sydney), Ryan Stehlik (Property & Injury Liability - Sydney) and Allison Haworth (Property & Injury Liability – Brisbane) have been elevated to Special Counsel.

Rochelle Rieck has extensive experience in both professional indemnity and management liability claims. This experience ranges from advising international and national insurers in relation to complex indemnity issues, fidelity claims and dual insurance to conducting the defence of both litigated and unlitigated claims made against a range of professionals, as well as allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination.

Ryan Stehlik has extensive experience in insurance, risk management and general commercial litigation.  The types of matters in which Ryan has acted include defending a range of large property losses and recoveries, and advising on policy indemnity for property and construction losses. He also has extensive experience in public and product liability injury claims for residential and commercial occupiers, facilities managers, body corporate committees, cleaners, manufacturers, construction site contractors, hoteliers, security companies, host employers and labour hire employers

Allison Haworth has extensive experience acting for major insurers and corporate clients in complex insurance and commercial litigation matters. She specialises in defending public, products and property liability insurance claims, and is routinely instructed in complex coverage disputes, multi party large loss, dust disease and catastrophic injury claims.

Being elevated to Senior Associate is Sarah Tuhtan (Property & Injury Liability- Brisbane), Michelle Christmas (Financial Lines - Melbourne) and Jasmine Wood (Energy & Resources – Brisbane).

Sarah Tuhtan specialises in in public liability claims (both in personal injuries and property damage), product liability and worker’s compensation claims. Sarah‘s experience as a defendant insurance lawyer includes advising Australian and international insurers, claims agents, corporate clients, educational institutions and local authorities on evidence, jurisdictional issues, applicable statutory regimes, liability, quantum and the strategic management of claims. She also provides advice on indemnity and policy response.

Michelle Christmas acts in professional negligence and disciplinary proceedings, property damage and personal injury claims.  With a focus on employment related matters, her experience also extends to defending claims in unfair dismissal, general protections, defamation, fraud and fidelity, and contractual disputes.

Jasmine Wood has experience in a range of resources transactions including the sale and acquisition of mining and petroleum projects, undertaking land access negotiations and drafting compensation agreements, legal due diligence, advising on contractual risk and the impact of various state-based petroleum, mining and environmental regulatory regimes.  Jasmine also undertakes real property and planning work for resources clients.

In addition, Tamara Baldwin has been elevated to Associate within the Property & Injury Liability team in Brisbane. Tamara’s experience extends to personal injury and property damage claims, including multi-party disputes involving complex liability and indemnity issues. She works with insurers, insureds, brokers and underwriters in the defence of numerous claims for clients in the fields of hotels, security, construction, real estate, sport and recreation.
