Aristea Friedrich

Aristea specialises in insurance law and dispute resolution for domestic and global insurers, domestic and London underwriters, insurance brokers and a broad range of professional, corporate and institutional clients, with more than a decade of experience across multiple Australian jurisdictions.

Since her admission in 2013, Aristea has advised on and successfully prosecuted and defended a wide range of claims including indemnity disputes, general liability, professional indemnity, medical negligence, product liability, reinsurance and catastrophic personal injury. This includes nervous shock and compensation to relatives claims.

Aristea’s professional indemnity practice encompasses acting for and against medical professionals and institutions, including general practitioners, surgeons, specialists, pathologists, radiologists and public and private hospitals in complex claims involving misdiagnosis, surgical errors, birth injuries and failure to obtain consent. She also acts for allied health professionals, legal practitioners, real estate agents and other professionals across a range of negligence and malpractice claims.

Her general liability practice includes multi-party and catastrophic injury matters, claims involving hoteliers, security providers, construction contractors and sub-contractors, manufacturers, property owners and occupiers, as well as class actions and workers’ compensation recoveries. Aristea has also spent time on secondment as a senior claims officer within a major insurer’s liability team, giving her firsthand insight into insurers’ claims management processes.

Aristea has represented clients in proceedings across Local, District, Supreme and Federal Courts in multiple Australian jurisdictions, including in the NSW Court of Appeal and in matters where special leave to the High Court of Australia was sought.

Aristea is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association, the Australian Professional Indemnity Group and the NSW Claims Discussion Group. She was a Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards Young Gun of the Year finalist in 2016 and a Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 finalist in 2018.
