Ethical Professional Conduct in the Workplace

Feb 2014 |

Although law is increasingly considered by members of the public to be practised as a business rather than a profession, practitioners must remember that they are personally subject to overriding ethical obligations. The ethical standards demanded of all legal practitioners often meet or collide with other professional obligations at an interface which needs to be carefully traversed.

In this session Nola Pearce and Stephen Hughes, both Special Counsel with Carter Newell, will look at this important aspect of professional obligations and how inappropriate conduct can result in serious repercussions for the practitioner involved. Nola and Stephen will:

  • Outline key aspects of ASCR 42 governing ethical professional conduct;
  • Discuss the range of obligations that arise as an employee, colleague, employer and officer of the court;
  • Highlight professional ethics as they relate to bullying and harassment; and
  • Touch on some practical scenarios for consideration and discussion of the associated ethical dilemmas.

This session will attract the compulsory CPD point for professional ethics in the 2013-2014 year.

Running from 7.30am - 9.00am on Wednesday 26 February 2014, the seminar will be held at the Queensland Law Society, Level 2, 197 Ann Street, Brisbane.
