Workers' Compensation Legislation

Apr 2014 |

In October last year the Queensland government enacted a raft of changes to its workers' compensation legislation which caught businesses, unions, lawyers and even its own regulator by surprise. Now before parliament is a Bill to review the WorkHealth and Safety Act 2011 (Qld), which will move Queensland away, in some respects, from the harmonised scheme previously agreed through the Council of Australian Governments and enacted in most States and Territories.

In this session, Special Counsel Stephen Hughes and Associate Lara Radik will run through the enacted and proposed changes and discuss:

  • What the workers compensation changes mean for employers;
  • How does an employer now contest an acceptance of an injury as being work related;
  • What are the proposed changes to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld); and
  • Useful protocols to adopt in response to persons seeking right of entry to a workplace on work health and safety grounds.

Running from 7.30am - 9.00am on Wednesday 30 April 2014, the seminar will be held at the Queensland Law Society, Level 2, 197 Ann Street, Brisbane.
